There seems to be an app for everything these days, and now adding to the list is an app to help you quit smoking. The new application, developed by a UK based charity called WeQuit, launched yesterday on Facebook.
The concept just might be crazy enough to work, for someone who is motivated to quit. The app helps people and their friends challenge each other to quit as well as create rewards for success and forfeits for failure. There are also opportunities to raise money for charities and provide a log of the person’s progress.
UK figures released by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show that smoking was most common among 20 to 24-year-olds (30%) in 2008 and least common among those aged 60 or over (13%). Reportedly, tobacco kills over 20 times more people than murder, according to the many facts listed on Truth.com, a major agency based in the US to help young people quit smoking.
