Fashion’s Night Out: Two Models Lead A Flashmob Across The City

0

Fashion’s Night Out was a night to remember.  In the span of just a few hours I danced in the street, had a few drinks, met some amazing people, and witnessed a flash mob lead by two models Coco Rocha and Damaris Lewis.  It went down in front of Zac Posen’s store in the meatpacking district, and of course I caught the whole thing on video.

After the flashmob the energy in the district was high and the next thing I knew there was a massive crowd in from of the DVF store as Estelle started performing in the store.  I spent some time at the Maybelline Studio at the Gansevoort plaza and stopped by the Levis store for some amazing cocktails, wine and finger food.  Check out the photos below to get a visual of fashion’s night out from my point of view.  Its funny, eventhough I’ve covered FNO on this site before, this year was my first year experiencing it for myself.  If you pick the right stores and the right location the madness of the night can actually be a fun and productive one.

Summer Recap: At The Knitting Factory With Blind Benny & More

0

Its been quite a hectic summer but one of the things that’s dominant about summers in NYC is the overwhelming amount of shows filled with new talent.  Shawn Lawrence James, a young guy from Brooklyn, has an ear for new talent and puts on shows throughout NYC featuring the most buzz worthy up and coming artists.  His last show at the Knitting Factory featured a band called Blind Benny.  The band features a familiar face, Jade who released her first project as a solo act and is now part of a band.  The show also featured Rachel Brown and another singer by the name of Anthony Flammia.

I got a chance to interview Jade (of Blind Benny) and Anthony Flammia after their sets.  Check out the videos to watch a bit of their performances and my interviews with them.

Jade speaks on what she’s been up to since her last EP It’s My Heart, Cookie and the process of branding the new band she’s apart of and more.

Anthony was definitely a pleasant surprise and as a new talent this was his very first interview.  We spoke about what inspired him to get into singing, and his album that he’s releasing.

The next show is in a couple of weeks.  Details and link to buy tickets below.

Watch: Jesse Boykins III Prototype 3010

0

Singer Jesse Boykins III dropped yet another visual gem upon us last week with this short film titled Prototype 3010.  Defined by his smooth sensual vocals, with his distinct style and youthful spin on classic quality soul music Jesse is an independent artist that we’ve had our eye on for a while. Classically trained in Contemporty Jazz at The New School he’s taken his talents around the world and back and earned mainstream notoriety through his participation in their BET Music Matters™ campaign.  This spotlight lead to his chance to have his video debut on 106 & Park and to cap it off was nominated for a 2010 Soul Train Award.

Take a look at the video above to get an idea of how Boykins delivers his flare to a modern day classic.

From Jesse Boykins III:

In a time where life is often guided by misconception and tainted love its hard to truly find someone who is there for you for all the right reasons. No matter how you deliver your heart to a person, you still have to wait for them to open it up. I came up with this concept to inspire honesty. I’ve learned through life, communication is everything when you’re in a relationship. Take these visuals as an example of how something could be if there is no truth between two parties. She/He is your prototype and could be so much more if you allow it. Never Take The Love Of Your Believer For Granted. Much Thanks to Andre 3000

Socially Awkward magazine decided to host a discussion with up and coming artists entrepreneurs and media mavens in New York City.  I was part of the group and the energy was sky high, once everyone started opening up about their dreams, passions and goals.  Thus, it was very befitting that this gathering was held on a rooftop.  Check out the video above to get an idea of what it was about.  An extended version should be released soon.
