Triple L Society Opens Shop In Brooklyn

0

Lawrence E. Nurse, founder of the clothing line Triple L Society opened up his first physical store location in Brooklyn during Fashion Week in NY. The opening of the 69 Lafayette street location was an intimate affair with wine, a DJ and a mix of friends and co-workers coming in and out wishing Nurse well and checking out the space. We caught up with the designer and entrepreneur and asked him how it feels to have his own store after having mostly an online presence for years and what his plans are to get the word out.

Fashion’s Night Out: Two Models Lead A Flashmob Across The City

0

Fashion’s Night Out was a night to remember.  In the span of just a few hours I danced in the street, had a few drinks, met some amazing people, and witnessed a flash mob lead by two models Coco Rocha and Damaris Lewis.  It went down in front of Zac Posen’s store in the meatpacking district, and of course I caught the whole thing on video.

After the flashmob the energy in the district was high and the next thing I knew there was a massive crowd in from of the DVF store as Estelle started performing in the store.  I spent some time at the Maybelline Studio at the Gansevoort plaza and stopped by the Levis store for some amazing cocktails, wine and finger food.  Check out the photos below to get a visual of fashion’s night out from my point of view.  Its funny, eventhough I’ve covered FNO on this site before, this year was my first year experiencing it for myself.  If you pick the right stores and the right location the madness of the night can actually be a fun and productive one.

ASAP Rocky Performs At Santos Party House [video]

0

After the buzz of Fashion’s Night Out started dying down ASAP Rocky and crew turned it up at Santos Party House with a super jam packed performance.  Even Drake was in attendance openly showing his support for the rising new rapper.  Earlier, Drake made an appearance at the Versace store and introduced ASAP Rocky to the crowd there.  He seems to have taken a great intrest in ASAP who is an up and coming artist out of Harlem NYC.  Last week, Drake attempted to tweet Rocky but tweeted a false twitter account, so it was later deleted–but we have a screenshot (see below).

Check out the video below to see the madness that took place when ASAP Rocky and crew took over Santos. Warning: its a tad bit raunchy. Many who have experienced his music say that ASAP has a strong Cali vibe but he delivers it with a New York attitude.

Summer Recap: At The Knitting Factory With Blind Benny & More

0

Its been quite a hectic summer but one of the things that’s dominant about summers in NYC is the overwhelming amount of shows filled with new talent.  Shawn Lawrence James, a young guy from Brooklyn, has an ear for new talent and puts on shows throughout NYC featuring the most buzz worthy up and coming artists.  His last show at the Knitting Factory featured a band called Blind Benny.  The band features a familiar face, Jade who released her first project as a solo act and is now part of a band.  The show also featured Rachel Brown and another singer by the name of Anthony Flammia.

I got a chance to interview Jade (of Blind Benny) and Anthony Flammia after their sets.  Check out the videos to watch a bit of their performances and my interviews with them.

Jade speaks on what she’s been up to since her last EP It’s My Heart, Cookie and the process of branding the new band she’s apart of and more.

Anthony was definitely a pleasant surprise and as a new talent this was his very first interview.  We spoke about what inspired him to get into singing, and his album that he’s releasing.

The next show is in a couple of weeks.  Details and link to buy tickets below.

An Inside Look At Internet Week 2011: Panels, Parties & More

1

All last week I spent most of my days covering and participating in Internet Week, and with every status update I received the general reaction of “what the heck is that!? –isn’t it always Internet Week?”
This year marked the fourth year of New York’s annual event of informative panels, conference sessions, speakers and other events surrounding start-ups, social media, online video, and more. Experts and executives from AOL, YouTube, Google, Yahoo, Meebo and more all gathered at the Metropolitan Pavilion, this year’s Internet Headquarters to diffuse knowledge and engage a tech ready and tech savvy audience. In addition, many organizations, start ups and tech folks partnered with Internet Week creating events in the surrounding area connected to the motives of what Internet Week represents. Amongst those included various meet ups, and even a couple of concerts including SOUND CTRL’s FlashFWD event and the Girls Who Rock Benefit Concert.
Check out the video to get a snippet of what Internet Week is all about.
