Steve Stoute Talks Passion, Being Heard & “Tanning”


I only got the chance to attend one panel during influencer con NYC and I’m glad I did. Even though the organizers did have a live stream online, being IN the room while these talks are happening is another level experience.

The room I was in was one with Steve Stoute and Philip L. McKenzie, the founder of the influencer conference, in a conversation titled “The Tanning of America.” Though Stoute obviously was there to push his book, some gems were dropped including the importance of making sure you are heard, following through, and following your gut.

I AM BEAUTIFUL- Panel to encourage girl empowerment


Blossom program for girls held a panel today entitled- I AM BEAUTIFUL : MIND BODY AND ACTION. It was a self esteem forum for Young African American and Latina Girls and was held in Bedstuy Brooklyn. The panel included moderator Raqiyah Mays of the ave mag and hot 97, Dr. Jacqueline Bush an OB GYN, Tia Williams an author and former beauty editor. Carolyn Williams marketing Director at J records, and Daniela Roebuck fashion stylist at The Source. At a later point Alicia M. Rivers came who is the fashion editor of Jolie magazine. The women discussed the issues of being a female in today’s society, not fitting in, the various insecurities. A topic that came up numerous times was that of the toiling relationship between young women and boys, and the role of the lack of a father. Lil Mama, of Jive records, also made an appearance, spoke to the girls answered questions, took pictures and signed autographs. The women then exchanged contact information with the girls who were interested and gave various career and beauty tips.

The Art of Love and Struggle


I went to a screening today for a documentary called “The Art of Love & Stuggle.” It was a documentary featuring 12 women- artists, singers- emcees- activists- poets and writers including radio personality and writer Raqiyah Mays, former VIBE editor Elizabeth Mendez Berry, Def Poet Claudia Alick (who was very quirky and refreshing to view).
