The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival

0

(and yes, I make a split second cameo in this video w/ my N.E.S.H.A. shirt on)

I am late posting this but I wanted to wait until I had photos so you could get the full experience! The Brooklyn Hip Hop Festival was last Saturday with performances by KRS One, DJ Premier, Buckshot, Blu & Exile, Mickey Factz, 88-Keys, J.Period, Fresh Daily, Zaki Ibrahim, Homeboy Sandman and Special Guests! Hosted by Uncle Ralph McDaniels, The BK Hip Hop Festival typically features new artists with a lot of buzz in addition to classic acts such as KRS One this year, in the past performers included Ghostface, Consequence, and Big Daddy Kane.

This is my third year going (with me and Assata as usual), and its simply a good day in the park to have fun and listen to good music. Mickey Factz performed this year and it even got Charles Hamilton to come to Brooklyn (and I finally met HCho — holla at me for the shirts!). Charles was going around doing interviews for imeem (see video above) and I just watched the performances and took photos. If you missed it this year definitely make sure you register at www.BrooklynBodega.com so you will be in the loop for next year’s performance day!

expand post for more photos. I have a bunch of video footage also, I will post that later. Stay Tuned!

The Fashionista’s Diary: A 21st to Remember

0

Rain, the young designer and stylist turned 21 on Sunday and she made sure it was up to par on the fashion scale. The party was dubbed “The Fashionista Diary” and sponsors included CoverGirl, Seventeen, DreamCloth, and the blog StreetCosignor. The event was at Room Service in the city and the flyer indicated there should be no snekaers and the event was very “GQ/red carpet.” Security was definitely tight but a ton of people came out to celebrate her big 21st. It was a cool night, complete with gift bags enclosed in Marc by Marc Jacobs totes. I didn’t get a bag but I heard there was some cool stuff in it. Now I really can’t wait until my 21st! Happy Birthday Rain! Expand this post for more photos of the night!!

So, yesterday afternoon Niatia known by y’all as Lil Mama was back in the halls of her old school and my current school Edward R Murrow. A lot of y’all don’t know but before her Lip Gloss was “poppin” we went to school together. She would be a senior this year, but she left early after her music started blowing up.

2XL kicked off of Pretty Ricky tour

Since I posted about this group just a few days ago and actually saw them perform I decided to post this. Also, if you read through it, they say they were the only opening group to receive a reaction. This is somewhat true but rapper Lil Mama received a lot of reaction as well. I wish them the best of luck…they told me they might be going on tour this summer with Omarion, so maybe that will work out better for them…shout to Nas for pointing this out to me.

This show was soooooooooooooo HILARIOUS!! I loved it. And I finally saw John Witherspoon in person, live and on stage. He is Ice Cube’s father in FRIDAY and POPs from the Wayne’s Brothers.

also…the show was hosted by Tracy Morgan Michael Sean from the Ms Jones in the morning show on hot 97 did a stand up act…

TK Kirkland was soooooooo funny, his act was way different. It was like he wasnt even trying to be funny.

Tommy Davidson as well as Sommore and Talent from KISS fm performed as well.
