Divine Bradley: A Social Mogul Creating The Future

One voice can change the world. As children, we are often told that motivating mantra time and time again but not everyone internalizes the message. Yet every now and then we come upon an example of a not so likely source creating rippling change within their community.

Coming from a background where Divine Bradley says he was “part of the problem” he was not a likely source for positive change but low and behold his path has lead him to become a social mogul bringing together voices creating rippling effects to make a positive impact on not only the community but the world.

Divine believes “the best way to predict the future is to create it.” At 17 years of age he saw a need in his community and was sparked to develop a community center with the youth in his community called Team Revolution. From that he has continued to grow, and gain more notoriety to make a bigger impact on the world. He became a ‘role model’ through the POLO foundation’s G.I.V.E. campaign and continues to “make a living giving.” We sat down with this social entrepreneur, who is now 25 years old, and asked him about his life philosophies and his plans for the future.

Divine Bradley interview by N.E.S.H.A from Nunnie20 on Vimeo.

NESHA: You are definitely the prime example of what I tell people all the time- that anything is possible. So what came into you for you to achieve everything you’ve done so far?

DIVINE: I don’t think its what came into me, its what came out of me. I wanted to take my life and put it in my own hands and create my own future. I felt there weren’t any positive role models in the community which is why I had to go out there and make something happen within my community. From that it gave birth to ideas like Team Revolution and ideas of me being a public speaker and a teacher and an educator. I wanted to be part of the solution instead of being part of the problem.

NESHA: How did you gain credibility to get people to believe in what you were doing and what you were saying?

Not Your Typical Art Show

An intimate evening, showcasing art, in its raw and pure form a few young harlem dudes had a gallery show at a local boutique in Harlem. Antoinne, J West, D-Ferg, LA and Belchez, well known amongst their peers, are the group of young artists who are behind this interesting art. I found out about the show only a couple of hours before and I was definitely glad that I went. Everyone seemed to be pleasantly surprised by the wonderful and unique pieces displayed throughout the store. Expand this post to view more of the art and the guys behind the work.

Decision 08: How to Get An Absentee Ballot

This is a huge election year because of the historic implication of the election obviously. However, it is also big for me personally because it is the FIRST time I am ever getting the opportunity to vote. But the only problem I had was that I am registered in New York and I attend school in a different state– so how do I vote? How do I make sure my voice is heard? Well, I had been hearing the term “absentee ballot” thrown around quite often. Everyone knows about it but where in the world do you get one from? Well, I looked it up and it is QUITE simple!!

Check it out guys! The full instructions PLUS the absentee ballot form. Just expand this post or click HERE. yay! VOTE 2008 (no matter where you are).

How to Vote by Absentee Ballot

  • Applications for Absentee Ballots are available at your county board of elections.
  • You may also download a PDF version of the New York State Absentee Ballot Application Form. (pdf 55KB)
  • Upon completion, applications must be mailed to your county board no later than the seventh day before the election or delivered in person no later than the day before the election.
  • You may also request an Absentee Ballot by sending a letter to your county board of elections. The letter must be received by your county board no earlier than 30 days and no later than seven days before the election. The letter must contain the following information:
    • the address where you are registered
    • an address where the ballot is to be sent
    • the reason for the request, and
    • the signature of the voter

An application form will be mailed with your ballot. The application form must be completed and returned with your ballot.

If you cannot pick up your ballot, or will not be able to receive it through the mail, you have the right to designate someone to pick it up for you. Only that person designated on your application may pick up and deliver your ballot.

If you are permanently ill or disabled, you have the right to receive an Absentee Ballot for each subsequent election without further application. Simply file an application with your board of elections containing a statement which describes the particulars of your illness or disability. The Board will review the facts stated, and if satisfied, will mark your registration record. You will then automatically receive an absentee ballot for every election until your registration is canceled
