Close but no cigar…
Last night I went to the Elie Wiesel Foundation
awards dinner to honor Oprah
with the Humanitarian Award. Over 300 people filled the Walldorf last night in her honor including Sydney Portier, Iman, Andre Leon Talley from Vogue, David Letterman, Damon Dash, and a bunch of other celebs. The event was hosted by Barbara Walters. And now y’all know I hustle and I REFUSED to be in the same room as Oprah and not speak to her
. I got THIS close
, then got stopped by her bodyguard. BUT
I did manage to meet and introduce myself to her friend Gayle. The event was beautiful and it was really inspiring to be in a room full of all those great people. I went to the event with the journalism group I told you guys about earlier called HARLEMLIVE
(click the name for the link if you want to join).
The food was GREAT!
SIGH…when I am a guest on the Oprah show five to ten years from now, I will always remember this night, where she was so close, but still so far…
A part of Oprah’s speech on what it means to be a humanitarian. You can probably tell from my blog that I clearly am NOT a photographer or a video person…I taped this the long way and thought I would be able to flip it around on the computer….maybe I can but just don’t know how so if anyone knows, let me know.
